I had to take this scene out of Prisoner because it doesn’t work with the timeline. Really what happened was, I was writing Dean’s story and Cole popped in there, and as usual he wanted to take over…so Dean had me “off” him because it’s his book lol.
*WARNING: IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THERE IS NO LIGHT IN DARKNESS AND DARKNESS BEFORE DAWN, YOU WILL NOT “GET” THIS…ALSO, THERE ARE ERRORS GALORE IN HERE.
The circular driveway of my mom and Jamie’s house was packed with cars. Connor’s, Sandra’s, Alex’s, and surprisingly, Blake’s gray SUV. I wondered if she had brought the entire family along again, sometimes she did that. Cole was always a little more lenient with what Blake did around us when she was pregnant. It was almost as if in the back of his mind he thought I would try something stupid with her if she wasn’t, even though she was always carrying their toddler around anyway. I unlocked the door quietly and placed the keys on the holder beside me before closing it and walking towards the kitchen. My nephew Elijah and Blake’s daughter Carley ran passed me before coming to a screeching halt as they noticed me.
“Uncle Dean!” Elijah said, lunging himself toward me.
“Unc Dean,” Carley mimicked, she always copied Eli, which made me wonder how much it bugged Cole when he was around. The first time she called me that Blake and Cole’s facial expressions were comical.
As if hearing my thoughts, Cole appeared at the end of the hallway with a beer in his hand. He was dressed down-jeans and a black t-shirt, so I assumed he wasn’t working. I always wondered just how weird it was for them to come over, but in essence it didn’t really matter. If Jamie and Brian were able to work things out and become friends again, there was no reason Blake couldn’t be okay with hanging around her father when he was here. Not that she called Alex her father, she always called him Alex, still though, progress. I knew Alex was thrilled about it.
“’Sup?” Cole asked, tipping his Corona towards me.
I nodded. “Good. Nothing. How’s everything?” small talk with Cole was always awkward. It was always better when Aubrey or Greg were around, especially Aubrey since he talked so damn much.
“Good, just hanging out,” Cole responded. “Any new kidnappings lately?”
That was always his jab, but every time he said it, there was less hatred in his voice. It’s almost as if he had to throw it out there as a reminder, like “I sort of forgive you, but I’m not going to forget how you fucked up my life for a month.”
