So, what’s a gothic romance novel? I’ve been asked this question a few times since announcing I was working on one. People assume they’re a horror or scary or . . . Idk *insert assumption here*. The feel of the atmosphere is important in gothic novels. So, fog, darkness, etc. Old houses. Old haunted houses. Those are only some of the things that can be included in a gothic novel. Sometimes they involve a haunted house and a layer of romance.
Gothic romance novel. Well, it’s all of that PLUS a happily ever after ๐
Fables & Other Lies is inspired by Caribbean folklore I grew up listening to. My grandmother, who was illiterate, used folklores to tell me bedtime stories. These stories were riveting, sometimes scary (which I guess is why I’m so taken by the obscure). I dedicated this book to my grandmother, but Iโm not really sure how she’d feel about that if she was alive. I like to think she’d be proud ๐
I hope you enjoy Fables. It was exactly what I needed to get lost in this year and I hope it serves the same purpose for you!
